Microbial Community in Citrus is key to HLB Early Detection Technology

The bacterial causing agent of Huanglongbing (HLB), the deadly citrus greening disease threatening CA citrus production, is known as Candidatus Liberibacter asiaticus (CLas). Researchers looking into the change in the microbial community of a citrus tree when CLas takes over can help the industry develop effective early detection technology for HLB when it hits the orchard, according to plant pathologist Johan Leveau. Watch Leveau’s brief interview and read California Fresh Fruit Magazine to learn more.
